We are a Stoke-on-Trent based re-enactment group aiming to recreating a Viking longship's crew of the 10-11th Century. The group was initially formed in the early 1980's and has been going ever since.
Y Ddraig are members of the larger national re-enactment society known as 'The Vikings' and take part in events all around the country, even sometimes abroad, largely throughout the summer months. We occasionally also run our own more local shows featuring our historical Viking military encampment or occassionally offering single-man school visits.
Members of Y Ddraig come from many walks of life and range in age, from member's own small children to the over 60's. As the crew of a Viking longship, many of our younger members portray warriors and oarsmen, but we also have our important camp followers, such as the craftsmen, wives and children. Although based in Stoke-on-Trent, we have members from Cheshire, south Staffordshire and Derbyshire.
We pride ourselves on maintaining an authentic approach to the early medieval world that we re-enact, with everything from our clothing, cooking equipment and weapons to our tents, sea-chests and anything else being based on historical evidence.
